My name is Mallery Thurlow. I am the Executive Director of the Haiti Foundation Against Poverty, a registered non-profit charity which helps provide Haitian children with life necessities like food, clothing, shelter, and education. We need your help to make an impact after the recent tragedy which befell this impoverished nation.

Our organization’s plan for 2010 had been to purchase a building to use as a permanent orphanage for impoverished, parentless children in Port-au-Prince. Following the devastating January 12 earthquake, we are directing our resources to disaster relief and infrastructure repair in Port-au-Prince and the surrounding area — a process that begins with providing much needed shelter for Haitian children, as well as for relief workers and medical personnel.

Our goal is to raise $225,000 to bring a stable, prefabricated structure to Port-au-Prince as soon as possible. This will serve as a base for medical relief and food preparation during the day and lodging during the night until this crisis has passed, at which point it this building will serve as the foundation of our permanent orphanage.

In the wake of Wednesday’s severe aftershocks, we are redoubling our efforts to raise $225,000 to bring a prefabricated shelter for the homeless and injured children of Port-au-Prince. As you can imagine, shelter as a whole is now at a premium in this devastated island territory, and we need your help to bring this too Haiti. Any funds donated on this website will go to fund this effort. Your contribution is deductible from your 2009 taxes. Will you help with a donation today?

Thank you for your support.

I am an ER Nurse and would be willing to go to haiti and help if you need nurses. I can be reached @ 989-213-7555

  2. Mallery – this is a comment from Chad’s mom, Jane Cramer, that was your teacher at Calvary….

Please pass the word along that our class watched the WNEM video, prayed over Mallery and Haiti-I quickly developed hand-outs from Mallery’s webpage outlining her ministry as prayer flyers-and have a permanent posting on my whiteboard with info. about Mallery/Haiti. Our prayers are with her-it was so difficult to hear her broken heart-but refreshing to hear her resolve that this tragedy will not thwart her mission.
    Blessings,
    Jane Cramer

Rich- I will be contacting you tomorrow, we are currently working on compiling a list of volunteers.

We are sending down a team to assess the situation in the next couple of days. We are looking to start sending teams down in about 2 or 3 weeks and continue this through at least the next two or three months.

Will all the aid go to assisting in the disaster WITHOUT interest?

  5. Danelle Fuhrman Jan 13th 2010

I am a member at Frontline Community Church. Our church has been updating us on this situation. I just want you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. We will be doing anything we can to help out. If you do start sending teams down I would be interested in going also. I do have children so I would have to know the details first before I sign up but I am very willing. Please let us know if there is anything else that we can help out with. Our church is collecting supplies to be sent down this weekend. I’m heading to the store tomorrow! God is still in control. Even when it doesn’t seem like it His plan is still better than ours. Please keep trusting that and remember there is a bigger picture that we cannot see. May God Bless you and what you are doing, Danelle

  6. We are very proud of the fact that 100% of the proceeds not covering our modest overhead go directly to the people of Haiti and the relief efforts there.

I read about you in the Midland Daily News and I am getting my school involved in raising money to help your foundation. We are from Coleman Elementary and heard about the earthquake and are getting jars out around our building to collect spare change to get into your hands to help with your efforts. God Bless you!

  18. Thank you so much for your efforts Morag! We are so appreciative of the outpouring of support, especially from our own community. Would you please send us pictures of you and the students so we can add them to our website’s photo page?

    Thank you again!

  19. Mallery:

    You know me, I am Mike’s dad & Holly’s Father-in-law.

When I met you in Midland we had dinner, and shared some stories. None of us ever dreamed things were going to be this difficult. As you know, my physical condition would only cause others to be slowed down. So all I can do is to continue to give money and with all my heart pray for you and the people there.

    Help Earthquake Victims!

The Haiti Foundation Against Poverty (HFAP) is a non profit charity that helps Haitian families deal with issues of poverty across their country. It was founded by Mallery Thurlow, a local 22 year old, in 2007, to empower poor, widowed and orphaned Haitians. THEY NEED YOUR HELP! Due to the devastating earthquake of Jan. 12, the HFAP is redirecting funds and trying to raise money to bring and build a medicalunit to Port Au Prince to help victims. Dutton’s Student Council is asking you to donate any amount of money you can share. Please take your donations to your teacher. The class who raises the most money will be rewarded an extra 15 minute recess with Mr. Kingsbury. We will be collecting from Jan. 25-29. Also, we will be having a HAT DAY for HAITI. If you donate $1 before Jan. 29, you
can wear a hat for the whole day on Jan. 29.

    Dear Mallory,
I am praying for your strength, continued trust in our Lord, wisdom and discernment. Remember that He created those little ones in His image, and He loves them more than anyone else can! He is in control, even when it appears that everything is out of control. I am also praying Colossians 1:9-14 over you:

“9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10 And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. 13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

Remember, your strength comes from Him! And also remember you are loved! : )

I am working on the pictures for you. We are still collecting money for the foundation and the response has been outstanding! We are still trying to count all of the change that we are collecting.

We have posted all of the articles that the Midland Daily News has written about Mallery and the people that went to Haiti to help on the wall in our school with the website address.

We had a hat day last week to raise funds. Each student was allowed to wear a hat at school if they brought a dollar for the Haiti fund. The student council is sponsoring a talent show at the end of March and the proceeds of that will also be coming your way! Our students and their families have been so generous.

  28. Mallery, Brooke & All of the wonderful people at HFAP – you are amazing! I am moved by your selflessness and your commitment to the beautiful people of Haiti. I am happy to have found out about the work you are doing and will be gladly contributing to your success!

May the blessing of the rain be on you—
    the soft sweet rain.
May it fall upon your spirit
so that all the little flowers may spring up,
and shed their sweetness on the air.
May the blessing of the great rains be on you,
may they beat upon your spirit
and wash it fair and clean,
and leave there many a shining pool
where the blue of heaven shines,
    and sometimes a star.

  29. I wanted to talk to someone who knows whats going on over there in Haiti and has gotten through the government red tape.

KistlerBuildings could supply materials for a 16×16x9 Pole Barn home with a 4′x16′ front porch overhang. Steel roofing and siding panels, 1 door and 1 window. The 8 poles or (“Perma Columns”), steel panels, 2×4’s and 3 trusses will fit on a pallet. Hopefully we can get 10-20 pallets in a container. Kistler could supply the entire kit for less than 5k each. Stuff them in the containers that Jeffrey wells, AIA from Oradell NJ is sending over. we could split the shipping costs with him. We could even supply the labor and/or training so the people can build their own homes.
They go up fast with less skilled labor needed. They are earthquake and hurricane resistant and we could build many schools, hospitals, churches and businesses quickly, cheaply and safely.
